With the purpose of promoting service presentation and industrialization of goods, mainly oriented to external or foreign markets in a supplementary manner of the national market, areas in national territory have been designated to have the benefit of a customs regimen, foreign exchange and special prosecutors: The Free Zones.

There are four different types of Free Zones in Colombia:

INDUSTRIAL GOODS, SERVICES AND COMMERCIAL FREE ZONES, to promote and develop the industrialization process, to render services mainly designated to trade and external markets.

INDUSTRIAL FREE ZONES FOR TECHNOLOGICAL SERVICES, to promote and develop technological based companies; whose products are of scientific investigation and have a technological development of new products and creative methods, production and suitable technology oriented to exportation and supplemental to the national market.

INDUSTRIAL FREE ZONES FOR TOURISTS, to promote and render services for tourists, mainly designated to foreign tourism (receptively) and supplemental to national tourism.

TRANSITORY FREE ZONES, to promote international market or fairs

BARRANQUILLA FREE ZONE AFFILIATIONS

Barranquilla Free Zone is a member of the following organizations:

  • Colombian Chamber of Free Zones (ANDI)
  • Colombian American Chamber (Barranquilla Chapter)
  • B.A.C.S. Association (Business Anti-Smuggling and Cargo Security Coalition), a voluntary alliance supported by United States Customs Service, whose purpose is to fight against narcotics smuggling and avoid cargo theft. The World Trade Center in Miami is the entity responsible for the creation and administration of such coalition.
  • Carce Member (Regional Advisor Committee for Foreign Commerce) in work
    procedures.
